SmallTV Pomodoro PT
Firmware

Releases 58 releases

Every firmware release, newest first, with what changed in each one and its files. The easiest way to update is the Update now button in the clock's panel; the files here are for installing through /update or for checking.

Do not use v1.15.1 or v1.20.0. 1.15.1 made screen ghosting worse and 1.20.0 could leave the clock unable to start. If yours no longer starts, follow the recovery guide (in Portuguese).

Through /update, send the .bin.gz without unpacking it; from 1.20.1 on, send the .bin.gz.sig (the signature) with it. The uncompressed .bin is for flashing over a USB-TTL cable. SHA256SUMS.txt checks the files.

1.23.5

latest
  • Starts faster and without a black screen: the start screen shows up right away, Wi-Fi connects straight to the last router, and a pixel-art bar shows the steps (Wi-Fi, time)
  • The time shows up right after a restart from an update or setting change, and the clock tries another time server if the first one is slow
  • More reliable smalltv.local: Wi-Fi no longer naps (it missed network queries) and the answer also goes straight to whoever asked
  • About 5 KB more free memory, which helps GIFs
  • The panel backup now includes photos and GIFs too (getting ready for 1.24, which reorganizes the file storage)
  • Diagnostics show how long each step of the last start took

1.23.4

test
  • Fix: 1.23.2 and 1.23.3 could not install updates (the clock restarted back into the old version). If yours is on one of them, install this one through recovery mode (unplug and plug it back in 3 times in a row, less than 30 s each)

1.23.3

do not use
Do not use: this test version could not install updates (the clock restarted into the old version). If yours is on it, install 1.23.5 or newer through recovery mode.

1.23.2

do not use
Do not use: this test version could not install updates (the clock restarted into the old version). If yours is on it, install 1.23.5 or newer through recovery mode.
  • Starts faster: Wi-Fi connects straight to the last router, and the screen shows the steps (Wi-Fi, time) with an animation instead of looking frozen
  • The time shows up right after a restart from an update or setting change, and the clock tries another time server if the first one is slow
  • More reliable smalltv.local: Wi-Fi no longer naps (it missed network queries) and the answer also goes straight to whoever asked

1.23.1

  • Smoother brightness: 20 kHz PWM (no flicker or whine), a brightness curve that follows the eye, and a 400 ms fade between day and night
  • Changing brightness or night hours in the panel no longer clears and redraws the screen
  • Automatic face rotation now slides in using the display chip's own hardware scrolling
  • Diagnostics show how long the last full-screen redraw took

1.21.0

  • Installable faces can now be animated: sprites with several frames (example: jumping tomato)
  • The panel shows the clock's last crash (exception or watchdog), with a button to clear it
  • Releases check the .bin.gz the way the bootloader reads it, plus a USB-TTL recovery guide

1.20.1

  • Signed updates: over the network the clock only switches to firmware signed by this project
  • The signature travels apart from the file and is checked before the swap; without it, the current firmware keeps running
  • Fixed network address: http://smalltv.local (shown on screen at startup), no need to remember the IP

1.20.0

withdrawn
Do not use. Published and pulled the same day: this version's .bin.gz erased the bootloader and the clock no longer started. Install 1.19.9 or newer; for a clock that no longer starts, see the recovery guide.
  • Signed updates (redone in 1.20.1); taken down, its files are no longer available

1.19.9

  • Compressed update guard: a .bin.gz with data after the gzip stream is refused before the swap
  • This is what made the 1.20.0 test build erase the bootloader so the clock no longer started
  • Install this version before any future update

1.19.8

  • Fixes the restart loop with Forecast cards and gallery faces with large fonts (issue #4)
  • Automatic time zone: picking the city sets the time zone and daylight saving
  • Diagnostics in the panel: last restart reason, Wi-Fi signal and memory
  • Option to get test versions before everyone else

1.15.1

do not use
Do not use: this version's screen voltages made ghosting worse. Install 1.15.2 or newer.
  • Screen voltage test against ghosting (withdrawn)

1.13.1

  • Security: websites open in the browser can no longer command the clock (CSRF and DNS rebinding)

1.11.0

do not use
Do not install: too large, it would leave no room for the next Wi-Fi update. Use 1.11.1.
  • Alexa control (test release)

1.10.0

  • Night brightness that follows the sun, and face rotation
  • Gallery faces with text in Portuguese, English and Spanish

1.9.0

  • Recovery mode (power-cycle 3 times)
  • Updates checked before switching, backup and restore in the panel

1.8.0

  • Day streak with a plant that grows into a golden tomato, garden and achievements
  • Shareable day card and new-version notice with one-tap update

1.7.0

  • Portuguese, English and Spanish in the panel and on screen, including the Words face

1.6.1

  • Installing a face switches to it right away
  • The panel no longer sticks in the cache after an update

1.6.0

  • Installable faces: small .json files, no reflashing needed
  • Online gallery in the panel and 3 sample faces

1.5.0

  • Firmware 25 KB smaller (compressed panel, lighter network stack)
  • Each face is its own file, with a guide to create new ones

1.4.2

  • More natural Flip animation, with acceleration and bounce
  • Pixel art sprite library and a choice of focus activity

1.4.0

  • New tabbed panel (Clock, Focus, Photos, Settings)
  • Face gallery with previews and a 15 s try-out on the clock

1.3.2

  • First public release: 8 faces (Matrix, Tomato, Analog, Weather, Neon, Flip, Retro LCD and Words)
  • Pomodoro with a progress ring and the tomato mascot
  • Weather without an API key, photo and GIF album, night brightness and updates via /update
